As a child Saturdays were great Play Days, well after the house chores were done. I loved when we lived out in the country and I could hike in the woods or up on the hill and pretend I was exploring, or climb the trees or climb up in the hayloft. Other days, when we lived in town, I would spend hours on my bike riding all over the place. Oh yes, Play Days are delightful days. I still love to explore and to ride, not so good at climbing trees, but in my mind I'd love to. Today's Play Day has to do with some fabric, some thread, and my sewing machine... what FUN!
Yesterday I "painted" some backgrounds for more lighthouse/ocean pictures and today I will start adding the detail paint, in the form of thread painting. Can hardly wait to get going. It is such fun!
I'm trying a new to me method I learned from The Wilderness City Quilter which involves cutting your fabric on the bias. I'm anxious to see how it works and if I get less puckers.
As I PLAY today I'll be thinking about our youngest son who has his birthday today. I did not know him 28 years ago when he was born. I didn't meet him until he was a week and a half old when a wonderful woman, foster mom and adoption counselor, brought him to church and announced they did not have a Forever Family for him. I was sitting up in the choir and looked out at him and my heart melted - I wanted this baby! DH and I had been talking about starting the process to get another baby as we wanted the two youngest to be fairly close in age as their two sibs were several years older. Originally I wanted to ask for a girl, but God put it on my heart that this little bundle of boy was to be ours. It was amazing... no, it was God. A week and a half later, on Valentine's Day, that very same little boy was ours. I won't say the growing up years were delightful, they challenged us beyond our comfort zone too many times, but the young man he is today was worth all we went through. He is a terrific young man, husband, and father.

B J did you do the sketch as well? Wow you amaze me and now with the story of your son....tell him Happy Birthday....I wished I could meet you in person.
