LIGHTHOUSES
I have loved lighthouses probably from the time I first saw one, who knows how many years ago. I am so amazed at the grandeur of them, often built in very remote areas. It is hard to imagine the difficulties the men faced in building them, sometimes having to haul the materials up the sides of steep rock walls from ships below; and then to build such tall narrow structures without the aid of our modern societies equipment that are able to withstand whatever the elements throw at them. Just amazing. The lights are a marvel in themselves, beacons of light, which at first was candlelight, able to send bright beams miles out to sea to help keep ships safe as they travel.
Having lived on the West Coast for the majority of my life, I've had the awesome privilege of getting to see several lighthouses first hand and to climb to the top of some of them. The view from the top is so amazing. I never get tired of lighthouses, or their views!
I've started a project this year (okay, actually started in the latter days of 2012) to make, or recreate, lighthouse pictures in fabric and thread. My friend Terri encouraged this and this is the year for me to do them. I'm doing a 5"x7" format for them. I'm not sure how many I'll end up with, I'll just keep going until whenever.
I can't help but think of God when I see lighthouses. God's light shines so brightly for us, through all the storms of our life, no matter how rough it gets. He shows us the way and guides us safely to shore (home) if we would just follow His light.
The ocean, like our lives, is ever changing. One day there are calm seas and the next mighty waves. We were never promised that life would be easy, but we have been promised that God will be with us, guiding us through whatever comes our way, we just have to ask him along. He doesn't force himself on us, He wants us to desire Him, to invite Him to be part of our lives.
